OPD means an Out Patient Department of a hospital. It is the section of the hospital where patients are provided medical consultations and other allied services
O.P.D consultation services may be required by patients in the following circumstances:
Diagnosis and treatment of disorders which do not require surgical intervention. These include prenatal counseling, Antenatal check ups,Identifying HighRisk pregnancies,postnatal advice ,Lactational counseling , Contraceptive advice ,PCOD ,Gynecological complaints like heavy menstrual bleeding, fibroid uterus ,infertility problems ,screening for gynae cancers ,etc..are done on an outpatient basis. This includes general examination, reviewing the diagnosis and assessing medical reports.
Post-surgical medical examination and follow-up are also done on O.P.D basis. This includes monitoring patients for signs of recovery and ensuring their health is not deteriorating after surgery.
Small procedures like dressing of wounds after a surgery are also done on an O.P.D basis.
O.P.D rooms are equipped with a bed for patients to lie down, where they can be examined well. Complete privacy is provided to the patient during consultation and examination. An O.P.D room is equipped and furnished for gynecological examination of the patient.
O.P.D consultation services are offered at specific timings on appointment basis, making it convenient for patients to visit their doctor at a timing suited to them.
